ImageWhether you are an art aficionado or simply have fond memories of early morning Warner Bros. cartoons, the name Chuck Jones should ring a bell. His Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin Martian and Pepe Le Pew characters sprouted from his own pen, and he shares co-credits on Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd just to name a few. Check out Dzian Gallery’s latest exhibit, Chuck Jones Animation Art, on display through May 31 and soak in a career that spanned 60 years of over 300 animated films, three Oscars and an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. For me, nothing sounds more exciting this weekend than a night of both Hot Rods and Rockabilly over at Ralph’s. Trickstah Promotions presents a Hot Rod show by day, rockin’ show at night with the 100% Kulture Hot Rod & Kustom show at Ralph’s Chadwick Diner on Saturday, May 23. Stop by early for the rat rods, but stay late for the bands, featuring the Mosquito Bandito, The Murder Garden, The God Damn Gallows, Jonny Carlevale & The Rollin’ Pins, Creepin’ Cadavers, Jason James & The Bay State Houserockers plus Angry Johnny & The Killbillies. 7 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Ralph’s Chadwick Square Diner, 148 Grove St. 508-753-9543.

BATTLE

Who were the Celts? Did they really paint themselves blue? What the heck is a “carnyx”? What do you get when you combine Charles Dickens, a tale of poverty and hope, along with some catchy tunes? Find out when you check out Calliope Production’s production of Oliver!, running through May 31. How about this for a triple header: Swing dancing, rock n roll and pizza? That’s what you’ll find at the Rock n Roll Swingin’ Blues DJ Pizza Party on Sunday, May 24. At 6:30 p.m., learn a few beginner swing dance moves, then at 7:30 p.m. DJ AlanHep2theJive will pull together some lindy/rock-swingin’ blues/sock hop/cross over DJ Mix. ImageTwo of Worcester’s most popular musical entities, The Delta Generators and Jon Short play a double header of blues on Friday, May 22 over at The Cannery in Southbridge from 8 p.m.-12:30 a.m. If you haven’t checked out either of these amazing groups/musicians yet, you obviously don’t get out much. Worcester is feeling the blues this weekend, as C.D. Stone and his Screamin’ Blue Orchestra hit Gilrein’s on Friday, May 22.
