• We miss the old Tatnuck Bookseller: It’s been years, but people still lament the closing of Tatnuck Bookseller & Sons on Chandler Street. Come the end of June, this landmark will reopen as Jumpin’ Juice & Java, hopefully next week (target is June 23-25). Owners Joshua Van Dyke and Andrew Erickson already have one location in Gardner, and this will be their second. The funky little stop will specialize in specialty coffees, latte, healthy fresh smoothies and a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast menu includes Danish, breads, burritos and sandwiches. Lunch boasts a list of paninis, specialty sandwiches, salads and soups, and the dinner menu expands upon the lunch with a selection of hot sandwiches. “It’s not a typical fast-food place,” says Van Dyke, “but it’s quick, where you order it and you get it within five minutes. With the food, we’re trying to stay on top of everything. It’s fresh and healthy. That seems to be the trend. We’re all about healthy eating.” The room will offer free Wi-fi as well as a separate conference room available for booking. Relaxed and comfortable, Van Dyke says they’ve kept the rustic beams and wooden floors of the old Tatnuck, but modernized it with a fireplace, couches, seating and flatscreens.

Starting at 5 p.m. weekly, the initial plate includes spaghetti and two meatballs. Refills include spaghetti and one meatball, but if you get the refills quickly, it’ll be like you got another two meatballs. It’s $8.99 for adults, and $5.99 for kids. When it’s gone, it’s gone, so get there early.
