By Charlene Arsenault • In honor of a father and brother: The two-year anniversary celebration for The Wine Vine on Highland Street is bittersweet. On Saturday, April 26, from noon-5 p.m. Sang and Camille Chhoeuk are hosting a fundraising event in honor of Camille's dad, whom she lost to Alzheimer's, and her brother, whom she lost to pancreatic cancer, in the last year. The proceeds from wines are being donated to Youth Star Cambodia. Sang, who is originally from Cambodia, survived devastation in the civil war there 20 years ago. He saw his father and sister die at a young age, as well as his grandparents perish from starvation after forfeiting their allotment of food to the children. "We felt compelled to help this wonderful organization started by a woman who lived in Worcester," said Camille, "and whose brother still lives in Worcester and is a customer, and now a good friend." Youth Star Cambodia helps families in Cambodia provide for themselves and gain a better way of life through agriculture, education, civic values and business entrepreneurship. Children's Friend also benefits from the fundraiser at The Wine Vine on Saturday. Established in 1849, this organization provides children ages 3-18 and their families who have suffered a loss with a safe environment to grieve. The wines including in this charity sale have roots in South Africa, provided by the owner of a vineyard originally from Sutton. Another wine featured is from Greenvale Vineyards in Newport, RI. The event also includes fresh local farm cheeses. For every $5 donation, each person received s chance to win prizes. Visit www.winevine.org for more information. • Dispatches from the road: Katelyn Head from Clark University tells us that the new seafood restaurant Sea-J's on Hope Ave. in Auburn is delicious. Located at the fork, next to Giovanni's and Donut Express, she tells us "I'm originally from the North Shore, so I've been missing the quick stop for good seafood. This place hit the spot. I recommend the Wednesday special of crab cakes and clam chowder." Not a sit-down place, the owner says picnic tables will be outside along with the warmer weather. • Clarification on Romaine's: Last week, we reported that Romaine's is supporting the fight against autism all month at their restaurant. Some misread the piece. During the month, this restaurant — located in Northboro — is donating 20% of its sales to the Asperger's Association of New England. It does not mean you get 20% off your bill. Still, the food here is delicious, and it's nice to know that 20% of it goes to a great cause through the end of the month. Wine tastings? New chef? New menu items? Have they added a taco bar to your favorite restaurant? Opening a new place? Expanding? Eat something good? Eat something bad? Did your mom win a pie recipe contest? If it's directly or indirectly related to food and drink, we want to hear about it. Direct any and all of your juicy foodish news and tidbits to Charlene at
