Stories and comments from Worcester's Web diaries

• Posted on worcester.craigslist.org/rnr: Well, count yourself among thousands of other kids who are doing the same ridiculous things! We live over near Holy Cross, and the police are over here alot and students are getting arrested. They are unbelievably ignorant and their parents are wasting money. I went to college too, but when I realized that I wasn't meant to be there, I did my parents the courtesy of telling them so and leaving. So, they didn't have to pay for the full four years! If you want out ... get out!! I had a very controlling father, but I did it anyhow. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. My father got over it ... when they see you succeed at something else worthwhile, they usually come around.

You are just wasting your time ... let some other kid who could use the education, take your place!

I have always been a lover of good, hearty, tasteful brews. I spent a lot of time in my early 20's traveling to breweries to see the "underground" world of Micro brews. Last night he has a BBC Traditional Ale in a cask. Very good, refreshing yet "hearty" enough to have the meal taste afterwards. Then 2 pints later of Berkshire Brewery's Coffeehouse Porter. Seriously I could drink this at 7am on a Sunday morning. Go pay Alec a visit.....Enjoy Good Beer

Last night, Lt. Gov Tim Murray came to Natick for the Natick DTC-hosted forum on transportation issues both regional and state-wide. A very nice forum it was, and allowed us to actually get into some of the meat on a crucial issue that affects us all. According to Murray, the state is facing a $15-19 billion deficit in transportation maintenance, all told — bridges, highways, and all. The administration is actively searching for ways to raise the revenue needed to start catching up on this deficit. It will take a long time and a lot of work, but it is something the state needs to re-invest in. Already the state has restored Chapter 90 funds to pre-2002 levels but that isn't enough. Those levels weren't enough, and the last five years have hurt us. As astute observers have mentioned on BMG and elsewhere, it's probably not a coincidence that Patrick's casino decision and the Transportation Finance Committee's recommendations were issued on the same day. Last night we got a glimpse into what Patrick et al are thinking about .... Let's get the casino talk out of the way. Talk about the casinos didn't take up that much time and attention at the forum, but it was mentioned a couple of times. Murray specifically mentioned them as a way of recapturing revenues currently lost to Connecticut and Rhode Island gambling ventures. We know that revenues from the casinos are designed to lower property taxes. Specifically, half of the revenues will go to that goal. We've also heard about the health care fund of 2.5% of casino revenues. A large portion of the remainder — possibly all of it (I didn't quite catch what he said) is going to go towards repairing our transportation infrastructure, to the tune of over $200 million per year. A gentleman whose name escaped me, but is active in transportation issues in Marlborough, pointed out that there's the possibility of creating up to 100,000 more jobs in the MetroWest area, if only the roads were up to it. Shouldn't we be looking at that instead of casinos? Murray's response was to the effect that it is, of course, not strictly one or the other. They're looking at 495/90 area issues, but they can't ignore the 24,000 jobs the casinos would create.

Not me! But, depending on stuff, it may be where I end up. I want to go here: http://www.clarku.edu/departments/holocaust/grad/grad_requirements.cfm It's the perfect program. It's like it was put together with me in mind. It's just perfect. With perfect staff. And a perfect curriculum. And a near perfect financial aid package. Really, the only thing that isn't perfect is the location. Is it worth it???

• Posted by "sharilee" on blog.worcestercountyrepublicanclub.com: How is it that Columbia University has no problem inviting Axis of Evil tyrant, President Ahmadinejad of Iran, as a speaker at the University, but they won't let ROTC operate on campus? They claim ROTC is unwelcome because they condone the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of the armed forced with respect to sexual orientation. Ummm, has anyone told Columbia what Iranians do with homosexuals? The maximum punishment is public execution o
