Stories and comments from Worcester's Web diaries Compiled by Scott Zoback • Posted by "Kaz" on Worcesterlove.blogspot.com: Green Hill Park is gorgeous. It's great to have it right in the middle of Worcester. When I was a youngster my parents took me here during the winter for some serious sledding. Back then it felt like the Swiss Alps or the Rocky Mountains. Nowadays I prefer it during the warmer months when I need a quick nature fix. From some spots in the park you feel like you're twenty miles from the nearest truck stop never mind being five minutes from downtown. One of my biggests regrets in life is not borrowing my uncles super-8 film recorder to capture the magical rocketship slide that was once here. I hope that it ended up in a museum somewhere. It was out of control retro futuristic & amazing. Someone must have a photo or something. Anyway- hope you enjoy. This episode really makes me proud of the diversity in Worcester. You couldn't plan this kind of thing. When the Brazillian woman started singing with her daughter I looked around to make sure some other video crew wasn't taping us taping her. • Posted by "Ms. Crystal" on crystalstailsmeowww.blogspot.com: Yesterday Neil and I thought we would go to The Canal Fest, which more or less is food from Kelly Sq area restaurants and some info on organizations in the area. We bought a nice coffee table book of Worcester and decided that the 95 degree heat was to much to eat foods. We headed over to The Dive Bar, see I have not been there since it has been under new ownership. The Dive Bar I knew was the plastic cups, rowdy college girls and bar fights. What a change. Alec was there alone chatting us about some beers and letting me know he has access to Tommy knocker beer from Colorado. YUMMMS that was my favorite of all breweries in Colorado. We sat enjoyed a couple beers I feel in love with the Coffeehouse Porter from Berkshire Brewing Company. • Posted on Worcester.craigslist.org/rnr: I feel an obligation to let people know, if you don't already, that the food quality at the new Wal-Mart Supercenter off Rt. 146 is really, really poor. We've tried shopping there three times for groceries, and each time come back with something expired, rotten, and finally moldy. I realize we should be more careful when we're shopping, but I'm not used to having to examine expiration dates that carefully. At Shaw's, the worst I've had happen was seeing a hotdog package that was due to expire next week. That's still sometime in the future, unlike the carton of OJ I got at the Wal-Mart that had expired more than a month ago. I haven't tried the other new one in Leicester for groceries, so I don't know if it's just food quality at Wal-Marts in general that is bad. I know, some people may ask, who does their grocery shopping at Wal-Mart, anyway? I was excited about the prospect of getting to do all my shopping done in one place for once. Well, I guess I'm back to my good ole Shaw's. It's not worth it to be in such a big, convenient place with all that expired and rotting food. • Posted on Worcester.craigslist.org/rnr: I shop at the Walmart off of 146 and though I have not come across expired foods, I will definetly be looking out for it. What I have come across is the lack of help in any department, the terrible service at the deli, the rotten fruits and vegetables they sell and the fact that every week prices inch up on everything. I have yet to see a manager there or anywhere in the store, I guess they figure there work is done once they get us suckers in there. • Posted by "4rilla" on 4rilla.blogspot.com: I've bitten my tongue for a couple weeks already, trying to give the developers of The University Park Lofts in Worcester the benefit of the doubt that they could run their business. But it that point the evidence is crystal clear that Brett Levy & Kathleen Buckley of HE&PG Realty LLC have dug themselves a whole so deep in their purchase and attempt to market The University Park Lofts at 21 Illinois St in Worcester that all they are interested in now is broken promises, a lawn that was not mowed for months, dead landscaping and promised roofdecks that seem like they will never happen. As of today 8 of the 37 units here at University Park Lofts have been sold, with Crystal and I being the most recent purchase and that was over a month and a half ago. The Trustees have not been providing the maintenance required at the building. In the September 2005 Proposal by HE&PG Realty they state that the premises will have a, and I quote "8600 square feet of green space replete with benches, pergola, stone path and lawn areas." There was a problem with this though .... A building stood on the grounds of this "proposed park", the building was demolished and the lawn areas consist of a drying lawn on top of building debris, pebbles, pieces of cement etc. Also the sprinklers were not turned on by management all summer and the lawn not cut for months. o In true blog fashion, the spelling, grammar and punctuation of these selections are to the individual poster's tastes.
